New - Over the Counter Medications Given at School
In order for the school nurse to give ANY OTC'S, a written order from your child's doctors office must be on file each school year. So, if you child has chapped lips from the cold weather or itchy skin, or a sun burn in the spring a current order needs to be on file. Please ask your child's doctor to complete the OTC form. Prescription Medications
A written order from your child's doctors office must be on file each school year any prescription medication your child needs to take during the school hours. Please print this form(PDF) for your child's doctor and return it to school.
Physicals
Physicals are due for all 2nd and 4th graders. If you haven't had your child's physical done by their own doctor and wish to do so, please let the health office know the date of the appointment. Our next date for physicals is Feb 14, 2008.
Please have the doctor complete this health form(PDF) at your child's annual physical.
What the school nurse does...
- Provides emergency first aid, and appropriate medical assistance as needed.
- Conducts health screenings for vision, hearing, dental, scoliosis, height and weight and other concerns as needed.
- Evaluates and monitors communicable and nuisance diseases
- Implements and monitors students' compliance with state immunization laws
- Makes referral to appropriate community agencies
- Evaluates and assesses student health needs, provides health counseling and conducts health-related classroom presentations
- Serves as a liaison between home and school regarding health concerns; makes home visits, takes health histories and assesses long-term illnesses
- Works with Committee on Special Education to develop objectives for the students' Individualized Educational Plan
- Serves as a resource person for faculty and staff and community agencies.
